Peacham, VT- Emma Jane Bean, 89, of the Bayley Hazen Road, died on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center, St. Johnsbury, VT.
Emma was born in Haverhill, NH, on March 21, 1927, to Byron and Nellie (Vancour) Roystan as the eighth of eleven children. On May 8, 1946, she married Robert M. Bean.
Over the years, Emma worked for the hot lunch program at Peacham Academy and was a substitute mail carrier. She assisted her husband, Bob in the care of the Peacham Village Cemetery.
Emma was a member to the Peacham Congregational Church where she taught Sunday School. She belonged to several service organizations including the St. Johnsbury Moose Club and the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved hunting and fishing and served as a director for the Caledonia Field and Stream Club. Emma was a member of the Bayley Hazen Snowmobile Club. In her spare time, she was fond of bowling, particularly in Barre and St. Johnsbury. Family reunions were a very important part of her life and she loved attending many MacBean Clan of North America reunions.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert "Bob" Bean on June 1, 2003; two granddaughters, Kathleen Bean and Angie Shearin; two daughters-in-law, Cathryn Bean and Patsy Bean; and a son-in-law, William Terrill.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Faris and husband Tony of Mosquitoville, VT and Beverly Terrill of St. Johnsbury; two sons, Richard R. Bean and Nancy Carpenter of St. Johnsbury and Stephen R. Bean of Waterford, VT; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; a sister, Arlene Stuart of Monroe, NH; a sister-in-law, Avis Roystan of Groton, VT; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial service will be on Friday, December 9th at 11 AM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. Burial will follow in the Peacham Village Cemetery.
Please omit flowers. Donations can be made to the charity of one's choice.
