Groton, VT Erla (Darling) Daniels, 91, of Goodfellow Road died Thursday, December 26, 2013, at Cottage Hospital, Woodsville, NH, following a brief illness. She was born in Haverhill, NH, October 3, 1922, a daughter of Leslie S. and Sarah (Powers) Darling. Erla graduated from Woodsville High School Class of 1940 where she received the Outstanding Athlete Award from Ross-Wood American Legion Post # 20, She later attended Plymouth Teachers College. Also, during her high school years, she played clarinet in McLure s Student Band where she met her future husband, Richard. Together, they continued playing in McLure s Senior Band for many years. Church was an important part of Erla and Richard s life as they enjoyed attending and being active in the activities of the church. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Woodsville, and until recent years, she would still play the clarinet. She also enjoyed family get-togethers and picnics. She will always be remembered as the baker at the P&H Truck Stop in Wells River, VT. Erla s baking of homemade breads and pies was legendary, and several of her grandchildren always said they would be going to Grammies Restaurant . She married Richard H. Daniels on July 15, 1942, and he predeceased her on February 8, 2013. She was also predeceased by her father Leslie on January 9, 1970; her mother Sarah on December 26, 1995; and two sisters Eula Cooney and Ilene Berg. Survivors include six children, Keith L. Daniels and wife Melanie of Morgantown, PA, Richard H. Daniels, Jr. and wife Marsha of Derby Line, VT, David S. Daniels and wife Lois of Brooklyn, Ontario, Gail A. McLeod and husband Ronald of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Stephen A. Daniels and wife Judi of Waterford, VT and Mark J. Daniels and wife Gloria of Leola, PA; twenty grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be on Sunday, December 29th , from 2 to 4 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. A funeral service will be on Monday, December 30th at 2 PM in the Calvary Baptist Church, 20 Elm Street, Woodsville, with Pastor Dan Chamberland officiating.
