Obituary

Bath, NH Ernest A. Roy, 74, of Pebbles Farm Road, died August 23, 2013, at Cottage Hospital, Woodsville, NH, following a brief illness. He was born in Woodsville, NH, September 14, 1938, a son of Elie O. and Germaine (Lamarre) Roy. Ernie graduated from Woodsville High School, Class of 1956. Following his graduation, he worked on the family farm prior to entering the service. Ernie served in the US Army from July 17, 1961 through June 25, 1964. Upon his Honorable Discharge, he attended New Hampshire Vocational Technical Center in Manchester, NH, where he received his Associate s Degree in Refrigeration. He later established and operated Roy Refrigeration with his brother, Clem, until his retirement. On December 29, 1972, he married Louise Bradley. Ernie was a communicant of St. Joseph s Catholic Church in Woodsville and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus in Littleton, NH. He served the community of Bath as a member and Past Master of the Pine Grove Grange and as a member and chairman of the Bath Village School Board. He was a member of the Vermont Beef Producers Association and the New Hampshire Maple Producers Association. In recent years, he was active with his sons in their endeavors. Ernie was a regular at Woodsville High School basketball games during the winter. He also enjoyed the meals and delivered meals for the Horse Meadow Senior Center. Survivors include his wife of 40 years Louise (Bradley) Roy of Bath; four sons, Peter Roy and wife Tara of North Haverhill, NH, Elie Roy and wife Amanda of Orford, NH, Benjamin Roy, and wife Arinn of Oceanside, CA, and Bradley Roy and wife Christina of Woodsville; twelve grandchildren, Calvin, Madeleine, Dorothy, Gabriel, Rose, Thomas, Anna, Jane, Lucy, Ernie, Audrey, and Deedra; ten siblings, Irene Guilmette and husband Alan of Milford, CT, Patrick E. Roy and wife Barbara of Putnam, CT, Roger O. Roy and wife Mary Jane of West Haven, CT, Ann-Marie Dauphinais and husband Eugene of Lebanon, NH, Bernard S. Roy and wife Betty Ann of Newbury, VT, Camille L. Roy and wife Melissa of North Haverhill, Philip J. Roy and wife Patricia of Woodsville, Richard M. Roy and wife Sandra of Woodsville, Norman D. Roy and wife Joyce of Bath, and Clement M. Roy of Woodsville; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by two sisters, Louise Forcier and Rita Lackie, and four brothers, Fernand J., Martin L., Paul E., and Victor A. Roy. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, August 27th, from 6 to 8 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 28th, at 1 PM in St. Joseph s Catholic Church, 15 Pine Street, Woodsville, with Father Jeffrey Statz, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph s Cemetery, Bath. Memorial contributions may be made to the Horse Meadow Senior Center, 91 Horsemeadow Road, North Haverhill, NH 03774.
