Obituary

Pike, NH-  Ethel Maren Bartzis, 84, of Lily Pond Road, died peacefully at her home, with her family by her side, on Wednesday, June 9, 2021.

Ethel was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 5, 1936, to Alton P. and Maren (Olsen) Mullaney.  She graduated in 1954 from Andrew Jackson High School.  On July 21, 1963, she married George John Bartzis.

Along with her husband, George, they owned and operated The Barge Inn Restaurant in Woodsville, NH from 1968 until their retirement.

In 1968, they moved to Pike, where they made their home.  Ethel worked at the Woodsville Public Library.

Ethel loved to read, enjoyed rhymes, and was an accomplished artist. She also enjoyed sewing, growing flowers, and collecting antiques and Annalee Dolls.   Having been raised in New York, she loved attending plays and musicals on Broadway, especially "My Fair Lady." She liked Fred Astaire and going on cruises with her friends.  Over the years, she enjoyed learning to cook Greek food.  Mostly, Ethel loved making her house a home for her family, whom she dearly loved.  She treasured time spent holding and cuddling her great grandchildren.

Ethel was predeceased by her parents, Alton and Maren Mullaney and her husband of 43 years, George J. Bartzis on August 9, 2006.

Survivors include her two daughters, Maren Knox and husband Ryan of Kennebunk, ME and Maria Cassidy and husband Ryan of Pike; three grandchildren, Lauren Olney and husband Ryan of Campton, NH, Christopher Colbeth and wife Emma of Fairlee, VT, and Arianna Cassidy and fiancé` Tyler Fullerton of Pike; three great grandchildren, Illiana Olney, Lainey Colbeth, and Diana Olney; and two brothers, Walter Mullaney and Bob Mullaney and wife Mary.

At Ethel's request, there will be no calling hours.

Graveside services will be private in Ladd Street Cemetery, Haverhill, NH.
