Obituary

Bradford, VT- Eugene Henry "Gene" Piper, 69, of Town Farm Road, died unexpectedly on June 11, 2013 at Cottage Hospital, Woodsville, NH. Gene was born in Hanover, NH on April 19, 1944, to Eric E. and Laura V. (Chamberlin) Piper. Gene graduated from Newbury High School, Class of 1962 as President of both his class and of the FFA. Following three years in the US Army, he worked as a building contractor in the Upper Valley from the mid 1970's through the 1980's. He then started E. H. Piper Trucking Company in Bradford. A true outdoorsman, Gene loved hunting, fishing, boating, and waterskiing. Gene was known as a man of great integrity, his word was his bond, his work ethic was unmatched, and he has set the bar high for his family to follow. He was a selfless, dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was predeceased by his mother Laura Piper on December 20, 2003 and by his father Eric Piper on February 8, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Bernice (Gendron) Piper, of Bradford, to whom he was married on December 19, 1969. Also surviving him is his son, Neil Piper of Bradford; two grandsons, Andrew Piper, currently serving in the US Army at Fort Drum, NY and Kyle Piper, a Junior at Lyndon State College; two sisters, Elsie L. Haradon and husband Bob of Newbury, and Vesta J. Phillips and husband Ron of Summerfield, FL; two brothers, Lee P. Piper and wife Debbie of Ryegate, VT and E. Dean Piper and wife Ann of Windsor, VT; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 11 AM at the First Congregational Church of Newbury, 4915 Main Street South, Newbury, VT, with Rev. David Pruitt, officiating. Burial will be in the Sawyer Cemetery, Bradford. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Founders Affiliate, PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241.
