Obituary

Warren, NH Eugene Rand Whitcher, 87, died on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at his home. He was born in Warren, NH, August 7, 1924, a son of Eugene and Elsie (Lindsay) Whitcher. Eugene served with the U. S. Navy during World War II from January 28, 1943 to January 27, 1946. He married Margaret Gove on December 23, 1945. Eugene was a self employed contractor, especially enjoying finish carpentry. Over the years he made dozens of grandfather clocks. During the Warren Village School reconstruction he served as the Clerk of the Works, at no charge to the community. Eugene was a longtime member of the Warren United Methodist Church and served as Chairman of the Board over the years. He also was a member of the Knights of Pythias, the Mt. Moosehillock Masonic Lodge # 63 of Warren, and the Bektash Temple Shrine Aaonms of Concord, NH. Eugene was one of the founding members of the Warren and Wentworth VFW. For many years he would make much needed handcrafted items for the Warren Church and Library. These items included tables, stands, and anything that was made from wood. He loved his Warren community and spending time with his family. He was predeceased by two sisters, Barbara Bond and Esther McKay; three brothers, Edward Whitcher, Chester Whitcher, and Lindsay Whitcher; and a sister in law, Esther I. Whitcher, also on February 21, 2012. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Margaret Whitcher of Warren; two sons, Randy Whitcher and his wife Jane of Warren and Ronald Whitcher and his wife Mary of Warren; three grandchildren, Angela Clifford, Stacey Jones, and Christopher Whitcher; five great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be on Friday, February 24, at 1 PM in the Warren United Methodist Church, with Rev. David Moore officiating. Spring burial will be in the Warren Village Cemetery.
