Obituary

Groton, VT Evelyn May McLeod, 84, of Powder Spring Road, died February 24, 2009 at The Pines in Lyndonville,VT. Evelyn was born in Cambridge, MA, on May 30, 1924, to Arnold and Mary (Martin) Pynn. She completed her three year nurse s training at Widden Memorial Hospital in Everett, MA and became a Registered Nurse on September 25, 1945. During World War II, she was a member of The Cadet Nurses Corps. On August 30, 1946, she married M. Ross McLeod. They moved to Groton in 1966. Evelyn was a member of the Groton United Methodist Church, was active in the United Methodist Women, serving as treasurer for many years, sang in the choir, and was leader of the sewing and handicraft group which made items to be sold at church fairs and suppers. A natural caregiver, Evelyn compassionately cared for her daughter, Joyce, as-well-as her mother, Mary, and mother-in-law, Ethel McLeod, for many years. She was predeceased by her parents Arnold and Mary Pynn; two sisters, Annie Grace Pynn and Irene Powers; and a brother Chester Pynn. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, M. Ross McLeod; their daughter, Joyce McLeod of Lyndonville; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins in the United States and Canada. There will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2009, at 11 AM, at the Groton United Methodist Church with Pastor Candace Ricker, officiating. Burial will be in Groton Village Cemetery in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Vermont Affiliate, 77 Hegeman Avenue, Colchester, VT 05446.
