Hancock, VT – Florence Ruth Gordon, 78, formerly of Newbury, VT, died Thursday, April 4, 2019, at the Johnson Care Home in Hancock.

She was born in Cabot, VT, January 20, 1941, a daughter of Elton and Edna (Hutchinson) Shatney.  For several years she was employed in the housekeeping and laundry departments at the Grafton County Nursing Home, North Haverhill, NH.

Florence loved watching John Wayne movies, gardening, playing cards, working on puzzles, and reading romance and murder mystery novels. In her younger years, she enjoyed dancing at the 111 Club and at Fryes' Barn.  She savored a great cup of coffee.  Mostly she enjoyed time spent with her children and grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents Elton and Edna Shatney; an infant son, Timothy R. Gordon; a granddaughter, Ashley Gordon on January 6, 2018; a daughter in law, Karen Gordon on August 12, 2011; and a sister, Mary R. Bradd.

Surviving family include her children, Peter W. Gordon, III of St. Johnsbury, VT, John A. Gordon of Berlin, VT, Michael P. Gordon of Groton, VT, Donna Linnell of North Haverhill, NH, Debra J. Sargent and husband Joe of Pike, NH, and Rose Brooks of North Haverhill; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; four brothers, Roy A. Shatney of Orlando, FL, Norris E. Shatney of Dunbarton, NH, Ernie J. Shatney of Peacham, VT, and Edward E. Shatney of Lyndonville, VT; along with three nieces, one nephew, and cousins.

Calling hours will be on Sunday, April 7, from 2-4 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH.

A funeral service will be on Monday, April 8, at 10 AM at Ricker Funeral Home with Melissa Gould serving as Funeral Celebrant.

Burial will be at a later date in the Oxbow Cemetery, Newbury, VT.
