Woodsville, NH – Francese A. (Chamberlain) Powers, 87, passed away at her home with family by her side, on Wednesday, July 24, 2024. She was born on December 31, 1936, in Barre, VT, to Eula (Boardman) and Herbert Chamberlain, Sr.
She spent her childhood in Wells River in the apartment house beside St. Johnsbury Trucking, where her father worked as a manager. She graduated from Wells River High School in 1956. She married Dale Powers on January 27, 1956, and was soon blessed with twins with three more little ones to follow giving her "five under five" as she would often say.
Francese devoted herself to keeping a loving home for her family but had plenty of hobbies to occupy her as well. She was an avid reader, especially of Danielle Steel novels. She liked to crochet, bake, work on her puzzle books, antiquing, and was always on the lookout for nesting hens to add to her collection, she enjoyed snowmobiling in the winter and working in her vegetable garden in the summer.
She and Dale loved to travel. Together they roamed the countryside in their motorhome and managed to make it to 49 states, and all of the Canadian providences. They liked to visit casinos whenever they could. There were several years they spent winters together in the sunny warmth of Florida.
Francese was predeceased by Dale on June 22, 2018, after 62 years of marriage; her son Alan Powers on June 3, 1978; her parents, Eula and Herbert Chamberlain, Sr.; her siblings, Herbert Chamberlain, Jr., Marion Darby, Irene Chamberlain, and Merlene Chamberlain.
Her memory will be cherished by; her children, Gary Powers of North Haverhill, Debra Millay and Roger of Union, ME, Anita Locke of Newbury, and Mary Fitchett and Christopher of Grafton; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; her sister, E. Ida Colburn of Mississippi, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Calling hours will be Saturday, July 27, 2024, from 1 – 3 PM at Ricker Funeral Home in Woodsville, NH, with a funeral service to follow at 3 PM, followed by interment at the Bath Village Cemetery.
