Fred C. Donald Jr., 88, Montpelier, VT, died after a short period of failing health on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Woodridge Rehabilitation and Nursing in Berlin, VT.  He was born in Graniteville, VT on July 14, 1936, to Fred C. and Emily (King) Donald.  He graduated from Spaulding High School in 1954 and attended the University of Vermont.  Fred married Judith Hobbs, on January 12, 1971, in Montpelier, VT.
He went to work for the Agency of Transportation in Vermont after college.  He retired as a project supervisor after 42 years.  In retirement, he worked as a consultant for Peters Construction for several years.  Fred and Judie wintered in Cape Coral for over 20 years.  He was an avid Duplicate Bridge player.  He was a life master, playing competitively for over 70 years.
Fred was predeceased by his parents, and a brother, Andrew Donald.  He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judie Donald; two daughters, Stephanie McMullen and her husband Patrick of Montpelier, and Jennifer Burnham of Elizabethtown, KY; five grandchildren, Samantha, Maxwell, Quincey, Jakob, and Megan; one great-grandchild, Stella; a brother John Donald; a sister Jean Carbonneau of Barre; as well as his many close friends in the bridge community.
Services will be held privately in accordance with Fred's wishes.
