Obituary

Woodsville, NH Frederick Joseph Grenier, 95, formerly of Terrace Street, died February 25, 2010, at the Grafton County Nursing Home in North Haverhill, NH. He was born in Barton, VT, February 16, 1915, the son of Adelard and Anne (Corbeil) Grenier. Fred served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the Asiatic Pacific Theater with D Company of the 172nd Infantry. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He served from February 24, 1941 until his discharge on October 1, 1945. Following his discharge he married Viola Mae Young on June 12, 1948 and they made their home in Woodsville. Fred worked for twenty one years as the custodian at Woodsville High School prior to his retirement in 1981. He also did carpentry work and sold and installed aluminum windows. For many years he also was the sexton of St. Joseph s Cemetery and Church, where he was a communicant. He was a 52 year member of Ross-Wood Post # 20 American Legion of Woodsville and VFW Memorial Post # 5245 of North Haverhill. Fred was predeceased by six siblings, Lionel, Fabiola, Roland, Cecile, Irene, and Pauline and three sisters-in-law, Zellene Burt, Elsie Willis, and Isabelle White. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Viola M. Grenier of North Haverhill; a daughter, Cheryl Garside and husband Jeffrey of Fair Haven, NJ; and a son, Michael Grenier and wife Delia of Concord, NH; four grandchildren, Timothy, Christopher, Kimberly, and Amie; four great grandchildren, Emily, Ashley, Logan, and Olivia; a sister, Yvonne Spriesch of Buffalo, NY; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be a calling hour on Tuesday, March 2nd from 12 to 12:45 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the calling hour at 1 PM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 15 Pine Street, Woodsville, NH. Burial in the spring will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Woodsville.
