Obituary

South Ryegate, VT – In loving memory of Frederick Paul Lakin, 72, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who passed away peacefully at his home in South Ryegate on March 5th, 2024, with his wife Rhonda Lakin holding his hand. He was born to Edna Chandler and Paul Lakin on October 13th, 1951. Fred was one of five kids: Patricia Page, Paula Emerson, James Lakin and Charles Lakin.

Fred's life was a testament to love, dedication, and hard work. He met the love of his life, his wife Rhonda Carpenter who was his neighbor at the time, and from that moment on, their love story began. Married on May 26th, 1975, for 48 years. Fred and Rhonda shared a bond that was unbreakable, never spending a moment apart.

Fred dedicated many years of his life to his work, first at Rock of Ages/Blue Mountain quarry in Barre and Ryegate Vermont and later for the town of Ryegate, VT, until he retired. His work ethic, integrity, and kindness touched the lives of many.

Fred and Rhonda were blessed with two children, Brandy Roy (spouse Moses Roy) and Paul Lakin (spouse Rebecca Lakin), who brought them immense joy and pride. His greatest joy, however, came from his nine grandchildren, Shelby Pennypacker (spouse Robert Pennypacker), Morgen Roy, Jonathan Roy (spouse Jade Roy), Brendan Roy, Gavin Lakin, Dustin Lakin, Westin Lakin, Austin Lakin and Isabella Roy. Three great grandchildren Mackenize Pennypacker, Beckett Roy and Emersyn Pennypacker whom he adored and cherished with all his heart. Fred's family was his world, and he always put them above everything else attending all sporting events and every winter concerts and even housing Shelby and Morgen throughout their high school careers.

Frederick Paul Lakin will be remembered for his unwavering love, his goofy spirit, and his selfless devotion to his family. His legacy of kindness, love, and hard work will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his enormous extended family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

Rest in peace, Frederick Paul Lakin. Your memory will forever be cherished.

Fred wishes were to not have any call hours, however there will be a private graveside services held in the spring.
