Woodsville, NH- Gary William Downer, 68, of Tree Top Estates, died unexpectedly on Monday, March 5, 2018, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, NH.

Gary was born in Woodsville, on July 17, 1949, to William H. and Mamie June (Henderson) Downer, Jr.

He was a graduate of Woodsville High School. On December 11, 1971 he married Linda Lou Dobbins.

Gary began his working career driving truck for Carroll Nihan in Monroe, NH.  He later drove tractor trailer hauling fuel and gasoline for Cray Oil in Woodsville, for many years.  Along with his wife, Linda, Gary operated Gary's Fuel for over 30 years and started Linda's One Stop both in North Haverhill.  After Linda's death in 2013, Gary started Downer's Fuel in Woodsville.

Gary was a member of the Sons of Ross-Wood American Legion Post #20 of Woodsville, the St. Johnsbury, VT, Elks, the Florida Moose Club, and the VFW in Florida. Along with his wife, family, and friends, he had numerous travel adventures through the Caribbean, Mexico, and Alaska. Gary loved to gamble and traveled countless times to Las Vegas and Atlantic City.  He loved participating in tournaments, from Bowling League and pool tournaments to slot machine and Texas Hold 'Em tournaments in Las Vegas.  While in Las Vegas he always stayed at the Stardust or Rivera Hotels and loved to take family and friends out to see the sights and nightlife of the city. He spent several winters in Florida.  Gary always loved having fast cars, Harley Davidson motorcycles, trikes, and any "head turning" ride.

He was predeceased by his wife, Linda L. Downer on September 20, 2013; his father, William H. Downer Jr. on November 14, 2005; and his great grandson, Aiden R. Pickering on November 24, 2015.

He is survived by his three daughters, Cheryl Kozuch and husband Tony of Woodsville, Wanda Downer and Rick Colbeth of Woodsville, and Jami-Lynn Johnson and husband Randy of East Ryegate, VT; his grandchildren, Brian Mallett, Mariah Mallett, Corey Colbeth ,Samantha Colbeth, Elliott Johnson, and Averi Johnson; a great granddaughter, Riley Rugar; his mother, Mamie June Downer of North Haverhill; his siblings, Bonnie M. Butson and husband John of Bath, Patricia A. Fullerton and husband Dale of Bath, Bradley J. Downer and wife Deborah of Woodsville, and Marie H. Downer of Woodsville; his fiancé, Rita G. Ames of Woodsville; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; two aunts; and extended family and friends.

A time to tell stories with family and friends will be on Saturday, March 10 from 2-4 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH.  A brief reflection of Gary's life will begin at 4 PM.

Burial will be held at the convenience of the family this spring in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Swiftwater Road, Woodsville.
