Ryegate, VT-  Gary Brian Mason, 68, died suddenly at his home in Ryegate on December 29, 2016, with his beloved daughter, Jillian, at his side.

Gary was born in St. Johnsbury, VT, on November 15, 1948, to Lyle and Lillian(Thayer) Mason.  He grew up in Ryegate, a town of which he was extremely proud.  He graduated from Groton High School, Groton, VT, Class of 1966.

He was a proudly decorated US Army veteran, receiving many service medals, including the honorable Purple Heart,   for wounds inflicted in Vietnam.

He held many different jobs through the years, but will be remembered best for his business, Gary's Plumbing and Heating.

A devoted father, he would beam when he spoke of Jillian's latest accomplishments.  A friend to many, you could often find him most anywhere, discussing a number of topics.  He also had an "open door" policy at the farm, where friends were always welcome.  Gary loved his "girls" and would spend hours working on the farm with his dairy cows.  He enjoyed attending farm and antique auctions, tinkering on all types of machinery, and spending time with his daughter.

Gary belonged to many organizations, including Ross-Wood American Legion Post # 20 of Woodsville, NH, of which he was a 47 year member.

He was predeceased by his parents, Lyle and Lillian Mason.

He is survived by his daughter, Jillian Mason, of North Haverhill, NH, his brother, Terry Mason of Barre, VT, as well as many caring friends.

Calling hours will be on Friday, January 6, 2017 from 6-8 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH.

A military graveside service will be held in Pinehurst Cemetery, South Ryegate, VT, on Friday, May 19, 2107 at 1 PM.
