Gary Ross Peters, 80, of Bath, NH, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, February 8, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in New London, CT, on February 21, 1944, to Waldo V. "Buster" Peters and Shirley (Cushman) Peters. His family relocated to Bath, NH, where he spent his childhood on the Foothills Farm.
Gary graduated from Woodsville High School in 1962 and went on to further his education at the UNH Thompson School of Agriculture, graduating in 1964. On October 16, 1965, he married Sandra Hatch at the Bath Congregational Church. Together, they raised six children on the Peters Farm in Bath.
Gary was a dedicated member of his community, serving on the Grafton County Conservation District for over 20 years and the NH Dairy Sanitation Board for 15 years. He was also a member of the Northeast 2 Cylinder Club, the Farm Bureau, and served on Bath Cemetery Board. He took great pleasure in sharing his knowledge and skills with young people.
He found joy in the simple things in life, including maple sugaring, working on his farm, tinkering on old engines and motors, and fishing.
He is survived by his Wife of 59 years Sandra Peters, six children, Elizabeth Peters and her partner James Duffy of Bath, Christopher Dennis and his wife Theresa of Savannah GA, Jared Peters and his wife Heather of Stafford, VA, Judy Durkee and her husband Matthew of Chelsea, VT, Sara Monette and her husband Chris of Plainfield, NH, and Amy Basch and her husband Phil of Bath; 20 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Errol Peters of Landaff, NH, Steve Peters of Oklahoma City, OK, and James Peters of Lisbon, NH; two sisters, Nancy Anderson of New Hartford, CT, and Susan Winsor and her husband William of Newark, VT; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Ricker Funeral Home and Cremation Care of Woodsville, 1 Birch St., Woodsville. Burial will be held privately in the spring at the Peters family lot in Bath Village Cemetery. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
