Littleton, NH- Gene Earl Tomlinson, 75, of Union Street, died at the Morrison Nursing Home in Whitefield, NH on December 22, 2016 with his family by his side.
Gene was born in Barre, VT on October 9, 1941, to Hiram L. and Nellie (Andross) Tomlinson. He was a graduate of Bradford (VT) Academy and of the barber training school in Nashua, NH. On January 22, 1994, he married Elaine (Clark) Knapp.
He worked as a barber in Bradford for many years before being employed by Hayward Trucking in Fairlee, VT, and St. Johnsbury Trucking in St Johnsbury, VT for twenty six years. He then established his own barber shop in Littleton in 1993 before retiring in 2003. Gene was a member of Teamster Local #597.
For several years, he wintered in Sebring, FL. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending antique car shows, and traveling across the United States. Gene helped sponsor Russell Clark Racing from Littleton when he raced at White Mountain Park in Woodstock, NH. Gene was an avid NASCAR fan. He was a man with a generous heart and manner.
He was predeceased by a son, Hiram R. Tomlinson on March 5, 2004, and a granddaughter, Christina Willard.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 23 years, Elaine Tomlinson of Littleton; a daughter, Kay Willard and husband Michael of Hope Mills, NC; a son, Ed Tomlinson and wife Lori of Huntington, VT; two step-children, Annette Davidson and husband Phil of Woodsville, NH and Ron Knapp and wife Marianne of Canby, OR; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren; a brother, Gary Tomlinson and wife Yvette of Waits River, VT; and three nephews.
In keeping with Gene's wishes, there will be no public services.
Memorial contributions may be made to one's favorite charity.
