Groton, VT George Richard Dick Kreis, 74, of Scott Highway, died on Monday, March 8, 2010, unexpectedly, at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, NH. He was born in Bolivar, Ohio, December 20, 1935, the son of George R. and Ruth (Blair) Kreis. Dick graduated from Ashland High School in Ashland, OH, Class of 1953. He received his Engineering Degree from Ohio State University in December of 1961. Dick married Diane Brown on June 17, 1961. During his working career, he was involved in the management of the glass manufacturing field for 34 years. Prior to his retirement in April of 1996, he was a divisional Vice President for Kerr Glass Manufacturing and later the Ball Corporation. His profession required him to travel around the country. Dick and Diane moved from Shorewood, Illinois to Groton, VT in June of 1996, following his retirement. He built his own home in Groton, along with his father-in-law, Dale Brown. He was a 40 year member of the Elks Club, an avid golfer at the Bradford,VT Country Club, and served as a selectman in Groton for 6 years. An ardent Ohio State Buckeye Football fan, he has often attended games. Along with his father-in-law, Dale, they enjoyed sugaring. Dick was an avid traveler and enjoyed planning trips for Diane and his family. He was predeceased by his parents, George R. and Ruth Kreis; three brothers, Elmer, Don, and Ward Kreis; and his mother-in-law, Janice Brown. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Diane Kreis of Groton, VT; three daughters, Kelley Kreis of Crest Hill, IL, Kimberley Stenson of Charlotte, NC, and Shannon Kreis of Shorewood, IL; two granddaughters, Breck Stenson and Campbell Stenson both of Charlotte, NC; two sisters Eileen Harper and Carolyn Lowe both of Ashland, OH; a brother, Wayne Kreis also of Ashland; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Sunday, March 14, 2010 from 3 to 5 PM at the Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. A funeral service will be Monday, March 15, at 11 AM at the Ricker Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. M. Catherine Cook from the South Ryegate Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in the spring at the Groton Village Cemetery, Groton, VT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Groton Free Public Library, Groton, VT 05046.
