Obituary

George Kerry Marshall, known to all as Kerry, passed away on December 28, 2024.

He was born on November 1, 1944, to George H. and Ruth Lovelace Marshall. Kerry was known by his middle name to distinguish him from his father and grandfather, both named George. Kerry's life was marked by diverse experiences and a warm spirit.  He served in the US Army, with a tour in Thailand during the Vietnam War.  Following his brother Dennis's death, he was transferred to the DC area and worked as a vet tech at the Walter Reed Medical Research Center. Kerry held various jobs, including working at a truck stop on I-89 where he fondly recalled meeting Seiji Ozawa. He also worked at his father's pharmacy, Family Drug Store, in Lisbon, New Hampshire. Kerry spent many years in the hotel industry, some being at Peckett's on Sugar Hill, the Red Jacket Hotel in Conway, and the Mt. Washington Hotel.  He particularly cherished his time at the Arizona Inn in Tucson.

Kerry was also involved in the local theater troupe in Lisbon and took pride in his stage roles, especially his appearance as the Lithuanian Bishop in "Auntie Mame". He attended Franconia College. Later in life, Kerry spent two years in the Philippines working with malnourished children in a mission feeding program, an experience he spoke of often and treasured.

In his personal life, Kerry was married twice, and the second time married Steve in 2011. Kerry and Steve met online and built a life together in Boston. They enjoyed traveling, including trips to New Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and Greece. Kerry and Steve were active in the Lifelong Learning program (OLLI) at UMass. Kerry had a passion for jigsaw puzzles.

Kerry is survived by his husband, Steve, and lots of loving family and friends. He will be remembered for his stories, his warmth, and his engagement with the world around him.

There will be a graveside service at the Grove Hill Cemetery on July 16th at 10 AM with Reverend Lynn Winter.
