Ryegate, VT- Gerard Joseph Gerry Florentine, 61, of Longmoore Drive, died unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, November 13, 2012. Gerry was born on October 6, 1951, in Boston, MA to Daniel J. and Marie L. (Gallant) Florentine. He was a graduate of Woodsville High School, Class of 1969. He attended St. Michael s College and worked on the campus newspaper. He then served in the US Air Force from January 27, 1971 through August 17, 1974. He was honorably discharged attaining the rank of Sergeant. Gerry married Pamela Jean Longmoore on September 18, 1982. Gerry worked in a variety of jobs. He was a Corrections Officer in St. Johnsbury, VT, and worked for Northeast Employment and Training Organization in St. Johnsbury. He was employed by Rick Henson working at Glazier Hollow Nursery and then for CPM in East Ryegate. Then he worked at the Post Office in White River Junction, VT before transferring to the Post Office in Woodsville where he worked for the past 24 years. Gerry was a member of the Ross Wood Post #20 of the American Legion in Woodsville. He enjoyed participating in Fantasy Baseball, Fantasy Football, and the Woodchuck Baseball League. Gerry s favorite pastime was watching all Boston sports teams in action. For many years he coached Little league, Boy Scouts, and refereed high school basketball all over the North Country. He also passed his time fishing, golf, playing poker and cribbage. He spent time puttering and working on projects around his home. Mostly he treasured the time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was predeceased by two daughters; his parents, Daniel Florentine and Marie Jordan; his step father, Clyde W. Jordan; a father-in-law, David Longmoore, and a brother-in-law, Norman Demers. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Pam Florentine of Ryegate; two daughters, Jennifer Jen White and husband Ben and Ashley Florentine and a son, Timothy Tim Florentine all of East Ryegate; three grandchildren, Mikara White, Mathew White, and Emily Prue; two sisters, Patricia Pat Demers of North Haverhill, NH and Marianne Jordan and husband Arnold of Okatie, SC; a brother, Daniel Florentine and wife Mary of South Ryegate, VT; three step brothers, Trenholm Jordan and wife Mary of New York, Clyde Jordan and wife Maria of Manchester, NH and Gerald Jordan and wife Betty of Accokeek, MD; his mother-in-law, Priscilla Longmoore of Wells River, VT; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be on Saturday, November 17th from 4-6 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. A memorial service will be on Sunday, November 18th at 1 PM at Ricker Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. M. Catherine Cook officiating. Burial will be in the Blue Mountain Cemetery, Ryegate.
