Gilbert James Meyette was born at home in Newbury, Vermont to Medie and Maude Meyette. He was the youngest of their 8 children, Alec, Lou, Bill, Alice, John, Kenny, Thelma and Gilbert. He was given the nickname of Pop, as he was always popping up in unexpected places, and was called Pop by his friends throughout his life.

Pop spent his life as a hard-working farmer on the family farm in Newbury Center. He was often heard to say, "I do more work by 8am than most people do in a day". He was shy and rarely left the farm but was quite the conversationalist with those he knew and loved.

He passed away peacefully, with friends around him, on April 19th, 2025, at the age of 94. He will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life will be held in his honor this summer.
