Newbury, VT- Glenda Welch, 78, of Swamp Road, died unexpectedly at her home on Wednesday, November 5, 2014, and has now been reunited with her soul mate Virgil and daughter Cathy. Glenda was born on April 3, 1936, in Newbury, to Robert O. and Amy (Downing) Burroughs. She was a graduate of Newbury Town Central School . Glenda married Virgil M. Welch on August 12, 1955. Glenda did woodworking at Copeland Furniture in Bradford, VT and worked at the Four Corners Farm in Newbury. She also worked for the hot lunch program at the South Ryegate (VT) Elementary School. For nearly twenty years, Glenda has been a paraprofessional at Woodsville Elementary School in Woodsville, NH. In her younger years, she broke horses. She enjoyed gardening. For over forty years, along with Virgil, Glenda helped farm their family land before moving to the cabin they built together. She loved being at camp where she was able to drive her Miss Daisy like a four-wheeler. Her family was precious to her and she loved being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Glenda was predeceased by her husband of over 58 years, Virgil M. Welch on April 5, 2009 and by their oldest daughter, Cathrine Mae Williams on April 9, 2014. She was predeceased by three brothers, David F., Robert C., and Kenneth N. Burroughs. She was predeceased by Blue, Virgil and Glenda s very special dog, just last week. She is survived by her children, Carolyn Kimball and husband Donnie of North Haverhill, NH, Dick Welch of South Ryegate, VT, Duane Welch and wife Lorrie of North Concord, VT, and Alta Welch and companion Troy McKean of North Haverhill; eleven grandchildren, Kylea, Silas, Meagan, Andrew, Tyler, Chelsea, Corey, Brandon, Tonya, Jennifer, and Cassie; several great grandchildren; son-in-law, Terry Williams of South Ryegate; a sister, April R. Ellis of Newbury; a brother, Larrie O. Burroughs of Arizona; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In keeping with Glenda s wishes, services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Norris Cotton Cancer Center, One Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, 03756.
