Obituary

Gloria A. Moore of Monroe, NH, passed away at her home with her family at her side on Monday, June 1, 2026. She was 90 years old.

Gloria was born in Stewartstown, NH, on August 6, 1935, to Ralph and Althea (Riley) Hammond. Her family moved to Monroe when she was nine, where she helped on the family dairy farm. On October 26, 1952, she married George Moore. Gloria was devoted to her family and home. She was very involved in the community and church, singing in the choir, and playing the piano and organ at church services. She was the leader of the 4-H club and taught classes in sewing, cooking, decoupage, and coordinated fair and group activities. She drove the school bus for the Monroe School and worked at the Monroe Country Store. She was an artistic person who enjoyed painting, weaving, and numerous other arts and crafts. She became very skilled in tole painting, accepting custom orders, exhibited her work at craft shows and festivals, and taught many classes for many years. Music was always a passion, and she played the trumpet for several local bands, including the St. Johnsbury band, McClure’s Alumni Band, and a jazz band.

She was predeceased by her parents, Althea and Ralph Hammond; her husband, George Moore; a son, Patrick Moore; and two sisters, Ginny Cinnamond and Phyllis Keenan.

Gloria is survived by two sons, Gregory Moore of Monroe, NH, and James Moore and his wife Diane of Hinesburg, VT; one daughter, Terri Nicholson and her husband Jerry of Canaan, NH; three sisters, Edith Craig of Monroe, NH, Barbara Farr and her husband Maynard of Monroe, NH, and Mary Hatch of Enosburg Falls, VT. Gloria is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Nate Moore, his partner Shawna and their daughter Isabella, Evan Moore and Bridget Moore, Sky Nicholson and his wife Beth, and their children Quinn and Maddie, and Alex Nicholson and his wife Marie.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 1:00 PM, at the Monroe Village Cemetery, with Pastor Earl Brock officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your nearest senior meals site, North Country Home Health and Hospice, 536 Cottage St., Littleton, NH 03561, or Monroe United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 125, Monroe, NH 03771.
