Obituary

McIndoe Falls, VT- Gloria Jean Thompson, 73, died at her home, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, December 13, 2012, after a five year battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Hardwick, VT on November 8, 1939, the daughter of Leon and Gertrude (Allen) Sternberg. Gloria attended Greensboro High School where she met Franklyn Thompson to whom she would be married for 55 years. She worked part time in the post office for 25 years. She was an avid Red Sox fan and a devout supporter of the Blue Mountain Union School sports program. She lived for her husband, her children, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her father Leon Sternberg, her mother Gertrude Cline, a granddaughter Carrie Murray, and a grandson Delvin Murray. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Franklyn Thompson of McIndoe Falls; four children, Rick Thompson and wife Laurie of Lititz, PA; Robin Irwin and husband Skip of Groton, VT, Cindy Darling and husband Craig of Newbury, VT, and Gary Thompson and wife Sue of McIndoe Falls; nine grandchildren, Mike Murray and wife Kristen, Jon Murray and wife Tiffany, Ryan Thompson, Reid Thompson and fianc ` Kelly Long, Mandy Dailey and husband Tim, Ashley Collins and husband Mike, Cody Thompson and friend Dianne Lord, and Katelyn and Aimee Thompson; six great grandchildren, Owen and Addison Murray, Aubriella Holden, Colby and Conner Dailey, and Oliver Collins; sisters Lorraine DiDomenico and husband Tony and Janice Bissell; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, a special aunt Yvonne Sternberg; and sisters-in-law Don and Vivian Umlah and Adrienne Dudley. Calling hours will be on Sunday, December 16, 2012, from 2-4 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. A memorial service will be on Monday, December 17, at 1 PM at the First Congregational Church of McIndoe Falls UCC, on Route 5 in McIndoe Falls, with Rev. Dr. M. Catherine Cook, officiating. Burial will follow in the McIndoe Falls Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cottage Hospital Oncology Unit, PO Box 2001, Woodsville, NH 03785.
