Guy Hoover,
Jr.
March 30, 2023
Guy Warren Hoover, Jr., 75, of Woodstock, NH, died March 30th, 2023, at WRJ, VT VA, after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer and the many complications that came with it. His wife and daughter were with him, holding his hands. He was born on March 06, 1948, in Laconia, NH. He was the son of Guy Warren Hoover and Florence Norma (Parent) (Hoover) LaPointe.
On July 11, 1987, he married his soulmate, Sherry Stimson on the forehead of The Old Man of the Mountain, often returning there on their anniversary.
He was a Vietnam Era Veteran, who was proud to have served his country. He was a dedicated member of The American Legion for 46 years, at the Joseph Newton Smith, Post 83 in Lincoln, NH. During that time he served as a past Commander, First and Second Vices, and was currently the Chaplain. He was one of the founding members of the Queen of Hearts committee.
He was a truly skilled carpenter, able to build a house from frame to finish, taking pride in his work. After retiring, his last and final carpentry project was to build his wife her enclosed porch.
Needing physical therapy to build his strength, Guy chose to walk up to five miles a day removing trash from the sides of the roads in his treasured community.
Being a genuine "White Mountain Boy", he loved to hunt, hike, fish, and ice fish. He loved golfing, earning the name "Mr. Consistent", always sending his ball down the middle. He would play a whole season with the same ball. When he couldn't go golfing, he loved watching it on tv with his buddy, Raymond. He was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan. He, along with his wife, loved to go riding the Rail Trail on the ATV, always inviting friends to join them. Many good times were had with Raymond and Dotty; Mike and Joanie; and many other friends. Those were some of his most joyous times. He loved playing poker with his neighbors and missed it so much when he was in the hospital, that he taught Sherry to play poker with him using medicine cups as chips. Mornings, at the gazebo with his buddies, were special for Guy. It was also special for everyone to see him there, including those passing by. Family and friends meant everything to Guy.
Guy's love of nature, especially the White Mountains, was a passion he instilled in his children, grandchildren, and nephews (Michael and Coleman), teaching them the importance of appreciating and caring for the beauty around them.
Guy is survived by his wife, Sherry Hoover; a son, Guy Warren Hoover, IV (Renee); a daughter, Hannah Hoover (Derek Bolton); grandchildren, Ryleigh and Brodie Hoover; a brother Everett LaPointe (Danette); dear friend and sister-in-law Dotty LaLonde; close cousin James Welsh (Debbie Celino); his Florida family; nephews and nieces; "adopted" brother and lifetime friend Bob Bartlett (Lorraine) and a very large circle of friends.
Guy is predeceased by his parents, stepfather, Everett LaPointe, his siblings, Mary Jane Kelly, Carol Zakarian, his "second Mom", Aunt Rosie Welsh, and his forever friend Raymond Mulleavey.
A Celebration of Life will be later at the convenience of the family.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the WRJ, VT VA for the 15 years of wonderful care they provided to Guy. To the family and many friends who have reached out and supported them in their time of need during Guy's illnesses and since his passing. You are their "village". On behalf of the family, much love and many blessings to all. Guy you will be forever loved and missed.
