Obituary

Newbury, VT – Harley John "Tink" Hood, 96, of Old County Road, died Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at The Blue Spruce Home for the Retired in Bradford, VT.

He was born in Newbury, October 27, 1922, a son of Harley and Margaret (Minshull) Hood.  Harley served with the U.S. Army from January 1943 to November 1945 during World War II.  A lifelong resident of Newbury he was a self employed carpenter installing aluminum siding, and in later years was known as "Tink The Oak Man" because of refinishing old furniture.  Tink loved hunting, fishing, mowing his lawn, and helping his neighbors.

He married Mary E. "Polly" Colbeth on September 7, 1942 and she predeceased him on March 15, 2018; he was also predeceased by a grandson, Michael J. Fairbanks in 2006; a sister, Margaret Colbeth; and two brothers, Raymond Hood and James Hood.

Survivors include his daughter, Jane Ruggles of Newbury; two grandchildren, James "Jim" Fairbanks and fiance Christine Rogers and Tonya Ruggles Gardner and husband Jon; four great grandchildren, Tyler and Tanner Fairbanks, and Steven and Ryan Gardner; a sister, Vi Hatch of North Haverhill, NH; and a brother, Bill Hood and wife Nancy of Newbury.

In keeping with Tink's wishes there are no public services being planned.

Burial will be in the Oxbow Cemetery, Newbury at the convenience of the family at a later date.
