Topsham, VT- Hassall Alton Dodge, 84, of the Topsham-Corinth Road, died on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at his home.
Hassall was born on May 18, 1937 at home in Topsham to Charles Edwin and Ellen Amanda (White) Dodge. He attended elementary school in Topsham and graduated from Bradford (VT) Academy. He married Alice Thompson Smith on October 13, 1984.
Hassall was employed at Duncan Miller's sawmill from 1955 to 1960. Then, he served in the US Army from 1960-1962 and was based in Germany. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he worked for thirty years at the Vance Farm. During that time, from 1969 through 1980, he also co-owned Hassie and Ed's Texaco with Edgar White. Never a stranger to work, he also worked for Bob Zambon's trucking and drove school bus for Waits River Valley School and Oxbow High School for 44 years, retiring on June 30,
In his younger years, Hassall enjoyed hunting, especially for rabbits and deer. He also raced at Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford.
He was predeceased by his wife Alice Smith; parents, Charles and Ellen Dodge; two brothers, James and Philip Dodge.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Louise Dodge of Topsham and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial service is being held on Saturday, June 11 at 1 PM at the East Topsham Village Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
