South Newbury, VT- Helen Lucille Herr, 91, of Old West Newbury Road, died at her home on June 19, 2010. Helen was born in New Haven, CT, on April 27, 1919. She was a graduate of the former Southern Seminary in Buena Vista, VA. On August 19, 1949, she married Howard Herr. Following her husband s retirement in Connecticut, they moved to South Newbury. Helen was a member of the First Congregational Church of Newbury where she formerly served as the choir director and organist. She also gave private piano lessons in the area. Helen dedicated her life and love to her family, first and foremost. She had a life-long love of music and played the organ and piano. She was also an avid gardener, enjoyed baking, cooking, reading and traveling. She was predeceased by her husband of fifty years, Howard Herr, on January 15, 2000. She is survived by two sons, Charles H. Herr, MD and wife Judy of Hanover, NH and John E. Herr and wife Anne of Bolton Valley, VT; a step daughter Nancy V. Maturo of Madison, CT; and four grandchildren, four step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. There will be no calling hours. The funeral service will be on Thursday, June 24, 2010, at 11 AM at the First Congregational Church of Newbury, 4915 Main Street South, Newbury, VT, with Rev. Edward Jager, officiating. Burial will follow in the Oxbow Cemetery, Newbury.
