Obituary

Ryegate, VT- Henry Lewis Speer, 83, of Buchanan Drive, died at his home on Sunday, February 10, 2013. Henry was born in East Bend, NC, on July 20, 1929, to Hubert Henry and Perry (Wooten) Speer. He married Beulah Davis on June 25, 1953. He served in the US Army in Germany and France during the Korean Conflict, working on amphibious duck boats. Following his discharge, he has worked all his life as an auto mechanic, finishing his working career for Walker Motors in Woodsville, NH, and later at H.G. Woods in Bath, NH. Henry and Beulah moved to Vermont in 1977 after living in North Carolina, Ohio, and Connecticut. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed farming and raising his livestock. Henry was a full time husband, father, and grandfather. Mostly he loved the time he spent sitting around the campfire, listening to his sons play country music. He was predeceased by five sisters and one brother. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Beulah Speer of Ryegate; his two sons, Lewis H. Speer and wife Linda and Richard Speer and wife Candi, both of Ryegate; three grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; a sister Vinilee Speer of King, NC; a brother Clarence Speer of Winston-Salem, NC; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and an aunt. In keeping with Henry s wishes, there will be no public services observed. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of one s choice or to the American Heart Associate, Founders Affiliate, PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241.
