Groton, VT- Hollis Carl Vance, 72, of Great Road, died on September 8, 2010, at Fletcher Allen Healthcare in Burlington, VT. Hollis was born in Groton, VT, on August 17, 1938, the son of George and Theresa (Legare) Vance. He graduated from Groton High School, Class of 1957 and served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1963. After discharge from the Army, he worked in the granite industry for 35 years. He also worked for the Village of Wells River, VT, for nine years. Hollis was married to Elizabeth Boyce in 1960 and they divorced in 1979. He lived with his companion, Elaine Cormier for 23 years. Hollis was a member of the Ross-Wood American Legion Post #20 and the DAV Commanders Club. Survivors include his four children Betty Wheeler and husband Chip of Fairfax, VT, Janet Vance and companion Jerry of Corinth, VT, Sharon Patenaude and husband Roy of Colchester, VT, and Harley Vance and wife Sharon of Wells River; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren; one sister, Anita Klucking of Gaylord, MN; four brothers, George R. Vance of Swanton, VT, Stuart L. Vance of Clearwater, FL, Richard A. Vance and wife Sue of Groton, and William F. Vance of Vernon, NY; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. It is at Hollis s request that there will be no calling hours or funeral service. A private burial will be in the Groton Village Cemetery.
