North Haverhill, NH-  Howard "Howdy" Thayer, 73, of French Pond Road, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at Cottage Hospital, Woodsville.

Howard was born in Haverhill, NH on January 12, 1948 to Orman Mann "Red" and Isabelle R. (Moulton) Thayer, Sr.  On July 4, 1980, he married Barbara Jean Townsley.

In his younger years, Howard drove milk truck for his uncle.  Then, for over 40 years he worked for Morrill Construction in North Haverhill.

Howard served the community as a cemetery commissioner for 18 years, was a member of the North Haverhill Fire Department for 20 years, and was a Director of the North Haverhill Fair Association for over 20 years.

Howard enjoyed camping with family and friends at Pasture Campground in Orford, NH.  Along with all the Thayer family, Howard supported all the local fairs, especially the horse-pulling events.  He was a financial supporter of 4-H activities and young college bound students.  He made countless trips with his brother, Raymond, and others to Lancaster County, PA and would bring produce and other Amish goods back home for family and friends.  He was proud of his annual display of Christmas lights.  In his spare time, he also enjoyed woodworking projects.

He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Jean Thayer on November 28, 2009; his father, Orman Mann "Red" Thayer on October 30, 2006; his mother, Isabelle R. Thayer on August 15, 2013; three brothers, Orman Mann Thayer, Jr. on December 6, 2010, Raymond Max Thayer on January 17, 2018, and Wayne F. "Wink" Thayer on August 8, 2019; an uncle, Irving W. "Irk" Thayer on November 15, 2014; and an aunt, Dorothy Moulton on March 8, 2021.

He is survived by his long-time companion, Annie Boutin of North Haverhill; a sister, Barbara Thayer Norcross of Haverhill; and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours.

A graveside service will be held in the spring in Center Haverhill Cemetery with Melissa Gould serving as Funeral Celebrant. The date and time will be announced.
