South Ryegate, VT – Irene Doris (Normand) Johnson, 92, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Cottage Hospital, Woodsville, NH with family by her side, following a period of declining health.
She was born in New Bedford, MA, August 13, 1924 a daughter of Joseph and Rose Marie Adella (Degree) Normand.
Irene graduated from Wells River High School, Class of 1942 and went on to Concord Business School in Concord, NH. Irene lived in South Ryegate most of her life and married G. Robert "Bob" Johnson on Sept. 21, 1947. She worked as a secretary for Grafton County Extension Office and a sales clerk at Hovey's Shops in Woodsville. Irene retired as the Postmaster in the South Ryegate Post Office. She was a member of the South Ryegate Presbyterian Church, South Ryegate Women's Club, Order of the Eastern Star and VFW Auxiliary Post # 5245 of Haverhill, NH.
Irene was predeceased by her husband Bob on April 20, 2012 and a brother, Robert Normand.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda Libuda and husband Gerald of South Ryegate, Janis Conger and husband William of Paso Robles, CA, and Valerie Kim Morrison and husband Alan of Little River, SC; two grandchildren, Christopher Cassady and wife Stephanie and Jessica Nash and husband Darren; four great grandchildren, Colin and Taylor Cassady, Cassandra and Carson Nash; a sister, Judie (Gonyaw) Bennett of Woodsville; along with several nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Irene's wishes, a private burial service in Jefferson Hill Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Irene's family wishes to acknowledge the group of friends who have provided her great comfort and support with their visits, phone calls, and care during this time of declining health.
