Obituary

Newbury, VT Irving Wesley Chamberlin, Sr., 81, of Main Street, died June 10, 2009, unexpectedly at his home. He was born in Bath, NH, July 3, 1927, a son of George Henry and Louella (Heath) Chamberlin. He was a graduate of Newbury High School in 1945. Upon graduation, he served in the US Army 6th Armored Infantry Battalion until his discharge on July 4, 1947. Irving married Marion Tyler on January 30, 1949. He worked for several years for Russell Estes of Estes and Gallup in Lyme, NH, before becoming a self-employed finish carpenter. He also worked for Maurice Slight at Grafton Fuel in Haverhill, NH. He was a member and past deacon of the First Congregational Church of Newbury and had served as a water commissioner for 15 years. He was predeceased by a daughter Mary Lou Chamberlin and by his siblings George H. Chamberlin, Hazel Jeroma, Chapman H. Chamberlin, Minerva Wheeler, Laura Piper, and Edith Anderson. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marion Chamberlin of Newbury; two daughters, Margaret Fitzgerald and husband Tom of East Longmeadow, MA and Marcia Snowdon and husband Dale of Pawling, NY; two sons, Irving W. Chamberlin, Jr. and wife Deb of Richfield, ID and Bradley Chamberlin and wife Nancy of Greenfield, MA; two grandchildren, Sarah Tompkins and husband Dave of Wing Dale, NY, Jonathan Snowdon and fiance Dawn of Poughkeepsie, NY; two great grandchildren Tyler and Hayden Tompkins of Wing Dale, NY; several step grandchildren; several step great grandchildren; and a sister Roberta Atwood and husband Alden of Orwell, VT. Calling hours will be on Sunday, June 14th, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. The funeral service will be on Monday, June 15th at 2 PM in the First Congregational Church of Newbury, 4915 Main Street South, Newbury, VT, with Rev. Edward Jager officiating. Burial will follow in Oxbow Cemetery, Newbury. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church of Newbury, P.O. Box 165, Newbury, VT 05051.
