Woodsville, NH John Edward Savoy, 78, of Swiftwater Road, died July 4, 2011 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born in Los Angeles, CA, September 25, 1932, the son of John and Sally (Manoogian) Savoy. Following high school, Ed entered the U. S. Navy on March 5, 1951 and was discharged on February 28, 1955. He was later employed as a police officer with the Inglewood, CA Police Department and retired as a Sergeant after 22 years of service. Ed earned six commendations for bravery during this time. Following this retirement he served as security officer for several rock bands including Led Zeppelin, KISS, and Bad Company. He later took a job as an industrial investigator for McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft Corporation in Long Beach, CA, from 1980 to 1989. After moving to New Hampshire he was hired as a full time officer in Haverhill in 1990, was promoted to Sergeant in 1991, then to Acting Chief in 1994 and retired as the Chief of Police from Haverhill in January 2001. For several years Ed was the time keeper at Woodsville High School basketball games. He married the former Gayle Kennedy Enderson on July 16, 2005. Survivors include his wife Gayle of Woodsville; four daughters, Jennifer Kay Irwin of Corcoran, CA, Janiene Carol Colley of San Jose, CA, Cynthia Savoy of Georgetown, DE, and Kristin Savoy of Fresno, CA; a son, Gerald E. Savoy of California; three step daughters, Leigh Reney of Woodsville, Vicki Bain of Littleton, NH and Stacey Smith of Haverhill; several grandchildren and step grandchildren and one great granddaughter. He was predeceased by two grandchildren Jered Thomas and Jaye Madison Savoy, and a sister Gloria R. Arslanian. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 8, 2011, at 10 AM in Pine Grove Cemetery, Swiftwater Road, Woodsville, with Father William Watts of St. Luke s Episcopal Church, officiating.
