Obituary

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Jane Musty Wilcox, 78, on Friday, March 7, 2025, at her home in Piermont, NH. Jane was born at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, NH, on September 28, 1946, to Edgar and Katherine Musty. She was raised on a dairy farm in Piermont, NH, alongside her two brothers, Peter and Sam Musty, and her sister, Susan Musty. They have many good memories of life on the farm.

Jane attended Piermont public school, then Bradford Academy, where she was in the chorus and was a majorette in the marching band. During her school years, she took piano lessons from Miss Munn of Bradford, who was a great encouragement for Jane to continue her music career. She played in church and in a local popular music band. After graduation, she went to Plymouth State College for a year, then transferred to the New England Conservatory of Music, where she studied and graduated with a Bachelor's in Piano Performance. She later went on to earn a Master of Education degree from Cambridge College.

Jane married John Stewart in 1969, with whom she had a son, Oliver, in 1978. She worked as a secretary and receptionist for an architectural firm in Harvard Square and taught music in the Cambridge Public Schools, with a long tenure at the Martin Luther King Jr Elementary School. She loved the students and was always looking for instruments to use in her classes when she had time over the summer. With fellow faculty musicians, she gave memorable concerts for her students of classical repertory. As a fine singer with a beautiful voice, she sang with the Cantata singers, a well-known vocal ensemble in Boston that continues to this day. On one occasion, she sang the solo alto part in the Bach Magnificat in concert.

Jane married Larry Wilcox in 1989, and Larry's son, Todd, joined the family. After she retired from the Cambridge Public School System, she worked at Roma Tile as a consultant. She and Larry enjoyed remodeling several houses and using their creative talents to upgrade and beautify those homes. She also gave private lessons, both voice and piano, to many students over the years, and they put on recitals that were a fun and joyful time. During her retirement, Jane and Larry took yoga and helped set up and close the room, and they also organized and led many trips for the seniors at the YMCA. They loved to travel and took many trips, including Portugal, Costa Rica, Mexico, Japan, Croatia, and Iceland.

In 2020, Jane and Larry returned to her roots, moving from Newton, MA, to Piermont, NH. They found joy in their home, tending to their gardens, exploring art and garden tours, and cherishing time with family and friends. A celebration of life is planned at the family home on June 21, 2025, at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, please donate to The Alzheimer's Association on her behalf.
