Obituary

NORTH HAVERHILL, NH -Janet "Jan" "Mimi" Ruth (Dunham) Kinder, 83, died May 14, 2022, suddenly and unexpectedly while visiting family in Oklahoma City.  She was born in Oceanside, New York on March 14, 1939, the daughter of Richard Andrews Dunham and Ruth Frances (Blair) Dunham.  She earned her certification to be a Licensed Practical Nurse and served many years as an office nurse for Dr. David Frechette and Dr. Patricia "Patty" Pratt in Woodsville, NH.

Jan loved her community of Haverhill and served he Lord and Savior faithfully. She was involved in many activities at the North Haverhill Methodist Church (youth groups, confirmation classes, Christmas caroling, the Memory Tree, church suppers, wreath making, Lenten Services, Sunday School and Bible Studies) since moving to the village in 1972.  She served, with her family, in many events at the North Haverhill Fair, first in the horse pulling ring and later at the Woodmen's Contest. She volunteered many hours at the Grafton County Jail with the Crossroads Program, encouraging inmates for re-entry into the community.

In July 1959, Jan met Richard "Rich" Gleason Kinder in Passaconaway, NH on what was later the Kancamagus Highway.  They were married on November 27 of that same year.  Soon after Rich graduated from UNH, they moved to "Number Six" on Lime Kiln in Pike, NH where they raised their family.

Jan is survived by her daughter, Meredith Puffer and husband Nathan of Groton, Vermont and four sons; Thomas Kinder of North Haverhill, James Kinder and wife Pam of North Haverhill, Kenneth Kinder and wife Amy of Pike and George Corey and wife Ok son of Altus, Oklahoma; nine granddaughters (Rebecca, Mandy, Malaika, Emily, Ari, Corrie, Ally, Maggie and Lily) and three great-granddaughters (Audrey, Jordyn and Nora) and one great-grandson (Luc).  She is also survived by her brother Richard A. Dunham of Tampa, Florida, nephews and nieces.

Jan is lovingly remembered by her family for her generosity of heart, kindness, adventuresome spirit and gentle sense of humor.  She loved to read, garden and to knit, quilt, embroider and bake.  Her whoopie pies at the fair and her doughnuts at Halloween are small examples of her generosity.  Her favorite thing to do was to create items for her family.  She also loved to be outside, in her garden, walking with her grand-pups and specially to spend time in the Kinder Forest with her friends and family members.

It is the request of the family that memorial contributions be made either to the Richard G. Kinder Memorial Fund for the Town of Haverhill to the attention of Marie Bigelow, at the Haverhill Town Office 45 Lawrence Street Haverhill, NH 03765. These funds go to maintain the Kinder Forest on Briar Hill Road or to The Upper Valley Haven in White River Junction at 713 Hartford Avenue White River Junction, Vermont 05001.

Calling hours will be held at the North Haverhill United Methodist Church, Wednesday June 1, 2022, from 5-7PM.  A Celebration of Jan's life will be Thursday June 2, 2022 at 10AM at the North Haverhill United Methodist Church, followed by interment at the Horse Meadow Cemetery.
