Bath, NH – Janet P. Tegu,72, passed away, Friday, March 31, 2017, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Janese and Joe Locke, following a lengthy illness.
Jan was born in Woodsville, NH, July 6, 1944, a daughter of Alex and Blanche (Estes) Page. A lifelong resident of Woodsville, she attended local schools and on September 2, 1959, she married Lee Tegu. They were married 51 years until Lee's untimely passing on their 51st wedding anniversary.
In the early sixties, Jan and Lee ran the Chat'n Chew Drive-In Restaurant in Wells River, VT and in 1969 they purchased, from Peter Tegu, Lee's father, the Woodsville Drive-In Theatre. They renamed it The Meadows and later built a second screen, establishing the only twin screen drive-in in this area. In 1980 they bought the Blue Moon Drive-In in St. Johnsbury, VT and that was sold in 1985.
Jan had many jobs in her lifetime, including being hired as the first female clerk in a New Hampshire State Liquor Store. She worked as a real estate agent, volunteered on the Woodsville Ambulance, clerked at Ames Department Store and Hovey's Shops, and worked Burndy's. In 1994 she began work at the Fleet Bank in Woodsville and remained there until 2012 as a teller and in the loan department. Jan was a member of the Woodsville United Methodist Church.
She was predeceased by her father, Alex Page in 1952, her mother, Blanche Page in 1974, and by her husband Lee on Sept. 2, 2010. She was also predeceased by a brother-in-law, John and sister-in-law, June Malas.
Survivors include her three children, Steven Tegu of North Haverhill, NH, Debbie Tegu of Woodsville, and Janese Locke and husband Joe of Bath; her grandchildren, Trevor Allen and wife Pamela, Jason Allen, Tyler Welch, Chelsea Smith and fiancé` Matt Rutherford, Corey Welch, Jennifer Paronto and husband Thayer, Cassie Moulton and husband Ben; and eight great grandchildren, who were all the pride and joy of her life, Skylar, Ryder, Gaby, Jacob, Christopher, Brenden, Kai, and Addie, along with an expected great grandchild in May. Jan is also survived by her brother, Chet Page of Woodsville, NH; and sisters, Cathy Sulham and husband Scott, and Sandra McKean and husband Dick; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins; a very special aunt Catherine Tegu; and dear friend Sue Gonyer.
Jan's last years of her life were a struggle with COPD, yet she had made peace with her Lord.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 5, from 6-8 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville.
A memorial service will be on Thursday, April 6, at 10 AM at Ricker Funeral Home.
Burial will be in at a later date in the Bath Village Cemetery.
