Obituary

Janet Marie Woodard, 68, died in Woodsville, NH at her sister's home, following a period of failing health, with her family by her side, on Thursday, January 12, 2023.
Janet was born in West Stewartstown, NH to Darrell S. and J. Ethel (Brown) Woodard on February 26, 1954. She was raised in Colebrook and Plymouth, as her family moved throughout the North Country. Upon their settling in North Haverhill, she attended area schools and graduated from Woodsville High School with the Class of 1973.
Janet went on to Hesser College, majoring in Administration, while working for the State of NH in the Welfare Department, and was deemed "Most Outstanding" one year. Later, while working full time at Digital, she was awarded her Business Management Degree from Franklin Pierce College.

On September 3, 1976, Janet enlisted in the United States Navy, attained the rank of Personnelman Second Class, and was on active duty until September 2, 1979. She remained on active US Naval Reserves until September 1982, followed by a year of inactive Reserve time; then, was Honorably Discharged.
Over the years, Janet experienced a varied working career. She began working at Digital Equipment, prior to her employment at Nashua Eye Associates, and Allscripts Medical Software, before retiring from Northeast Planning Associates.
Janet was always active and during the 1980s, ran in three Boston Marathons. She enjoyed horseback riding and cross-country skiing. Janet enjoyed traveling in the US as well as internationally, with family and friends. At home, she was an avid reader of various genres, and liked watching comedy shows on television. Her cats were her constant loving companions.

She was predeceased by her father, Darrell Simon Woodard on March 18, 1991 and by her mother, J. Ethel Woodard on November 19, 2016.
She is survived by two sisters, Kathy Woodard and Darlene White and husband Fred, all of Woodsville, two aunts, as well as "cousins by the dozens."

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be on Saturday January 28, 2023, 11AM, at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, with Melissa Gould as Funeral Celebrant. Burial with military honors will be in Center Haverhill Cemetery on Thursday May 11, 2023, at 1PM.
