Woodsville, NH- John David Whitley, 71, of Hillside Lane, died following a period of failing health, on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at the VA Medical Center, White River Junction, VT.
John was born on April 17, 1946, in Northampton, MA, to Harold Woodrow and Louise Eleanor (Mayeski) Whitley. He served in the US Army from October 11, 1965 through September 29, 1967.
A plumber by trade, John worked, initially in Northampton, and then at ARC in Bradford, VT, for over twenty years.
John moved to the area from Massachusetts in 1986 and resided in Piermont, NH, before moving to Woodsville in October 2016. He enjoyed the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing. He loved flower gardening and had designed and planted a new bed this past spring at his new home.
John is survived by his wife, Mary (Horton) Whitley of Woodsville, to whom he was married on May 2, 1996. He is also survived by a step-daughter, Rosenna Burgess and husband Duane of Bradford, VT; a sister, Louise Hodges of Florence, MA; two brothers, and Gretchen, his dachshund.
There will be no calling hours.
A graveside service will be on Wednesday, August 16, at 11 AM in South Lawn Cemetery, Piermont, NH.
