Groton, VT- Joseph Arthur Davis, 76, of Glover Road, died at the Grafton County Nursing Home on May 7, 2009. Joe was born in Livingston Manor, NY, on November 24, 1932, to Wallace and Vera (Bailey) Davis. He served in the US Army from December 8, 1952 through November 16, 1954. He married Phyllis Detweiler on February 13, 1960. In 1976 they moved from Bloomingdale, NJ to Vermont. Following his time in the service Joe worked in production control for Whalite Manufacturing in New Jersey and later at Fairbanks Scales in St. Johnsbury, VT. He served as custodian for the Newbury Village School. He and Phyllis provided foster care for many years for the Future s Program and SRS. Joe spent time woodworking, fly fishing and hunting. He drove the #55 car in the Coupe Division at Bear Ridge and enjoyed going to Thunder Road in Barre. He was predeceased by his parents Wallace and Vera Davis and by his siblings Gerald Davis, Leo Davis, and Mary Horvath. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Phyllis Davis of Groton; a daughter Christle D. Brooks and husband Barry of Groton; two sons Todd R. Davis of Milton, VT, Jay A. Davis and fiance Renee Armond of Bossier City, LA; three grandchildren Stephanie Ames, Sera Brooks, and Kurtis Brooks; two brothers Lloyd Davis of Neptune, NJ and Jules Davis of Livingston Manor, NY; several nieces and nephews; and his buddy, Brian Sullivan of Groton, VT. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at 11AM at the Newbury Bible Church, 16 Cross Street, Newbury, VT.
