Joseph P. Miller, 72, passed away on May 28th, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family at Dartmouth Hitchcock Memorial Hospital due to injuries sustained from an automobile collision while out riding his bicycle.
He was born on May 11, 1954, in Marion OH to John H. Miller and Evelyn (Vaughn) Miller. He spent the majority of his childhood living in Columbus, Ohio on Whittier Street with 11 siblings. A graduate of Bishop Ready High School, following high school, he moved to Florida and worked a variety of jobs before relocating to New Hampshire to attend NH Vocational-Technical College. It was working at Dartmouth Hitchcock Memorial hospital that he met the love of his life, Rita, who he would be married to for 35 beautiful years. They had one son, John, who he loved with all of his heart and was extremely proud of the man that he had grown to become.
Joseph worked at Dartmouth Hitchcock Memorial Hospital for 35 years as a Biomedical Technician and a Cardiac Catheterization Technician. He was extremely good at his job and had deep compassion for the patients that would come into the cath lab, making them feel comfortable and safe during frightening procedures. It was the perfect career for a man like him.
He had a great love for every member of his family, and the deepest love for Rita and John. He was a thoughtful and inquisitive man who always wanted to learn new things, with a breadth of knowledge in a wide array of subjects that made him extremely easy to converse with. One of his many nuggets of wisdom was that you should make friends with people who are different from you. He believed that everybody had something to contribute to a conversation and you could always learn something from someone, regardless of their background. He had the gift of kindness and was not shy about showing it, a man who was always willing to help you with any problem or hardship you would face. Every day was an adventure and he took advantage every day with his boundless energy. Whether it was hiking, playing music, gardening, woodworking, apple cider pressing, maple syrup making, or riding his bike, he was always active. If you knew him well, you knew that he was spontaneous and adventurous, and the healthiest 72-year-old man that you would ever meet.
Joseph is survived by his wife Rita (Pelletier) Miller, of North Haverhill, NH; a son John J Miller and his fiancée Taylor Parton Seattle, WA; eleven siblings, Judee Miller and husband George Jameson, of Seattle, WA, Linda Thompson and husband Pete, of Reynoldsburg, OH, Elizabeth Ross and husband Robert, of Reynoldsburg, OH, Fredrick Miller and partner Carol, of Groveport, OH, Charles Miller and wife Bonnie, of Columbus, OH, Cecilia Carpenter, of Bremen, OH, Mary Vogel, of Bremen, OH, Veronica Miller and family friend Rita Murray, of Columbus, OH, Ruth Miller and wife Cyndi Young, of Palm Coast, FL, Paul Miller and wife Sandra, of Cardington, OH, John H Miller II and wife Lynne, of Bexley, OH; as well as many nieces and nephews (as you can well imagine). He is predeceased by his parents John and Evelyn Miller, a sister Jacquiline and a brother Thomas.
