Newbury, VT- Katheryn “Deede” E. Cushing passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2026, two weeks shy of her 96th birthday.

Katheryn “Deede” was born at her family home on October 10, 1930, to Doris (Meader) and Harry J. Cushing.

Over forty years, Deede opened her arms, heart, and home to hundreds of children. Once retiring from her home childcare, she enjoyed fishing, traveling, a good yard sale, and collecting Care Bears. You would also find Katheryn deep in the dirt of her gardens. Once unable to have a large garden, her family bought her raised beds to enjoy at her doorstep, and until recently you would find her admiring her bounty from those raised beds.

She is predeceased by her five brothers: Harold Murdock, Donald “Ben” Murdock, James Cushing, George Cushing, and Harry J. Cushing Jr.; her four sisters: Ruth Fiefield, Mary Coutermarch, & Elizabeth Roy; a grandnephew, Joseph Cushing, and a great-grandnephew, Jared Cushing.

She is survived by her niece Sandy Manell and Nephew Arthur Mace, who were raised by Deede herself and were referred to as her children. She is also survived by three sisters, Doreen Delano, Linda Whitehill, and Patricia Carl, and lots of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

There will be a graveside service on Saturday, October 17th, 2026, at 1 PM at the Boltonville Cemetery.
