Obituary

Kenneth John King, "Ken", 78, of Woodsville, passed away following a battle with dementia on May 8, 2023, at Riverglen House.

He was born in Syracuse, NY on June 16, 1944, the son of Martin Kenneth King and Ruth Giles. He graduated from Marcellus Central School in 1962. "Kenny" loved being with his extended family, plowing with his grandfather, and fast cars.

Ken received a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering and a Master's in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University. He completed multiple coop employments with IBM. Following graduation in 1969 he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served in Norfolk, VA. During his time in the Navy, he completed a Master's in Administration at George Washington University. After his honorable discharge in 1971, he returned to his studies and completed his Doctorate in Electrical Engineering at Northwestern University. Ken then moved to MA where he spent many years working for Digital Equipment Corporation as the Head of External Research.

Ken married Laraine Freidhof in August of 1983. They moved to Boxborough, MA where they raised two children: Jennifer and Brian. Ken was an active member of the Boxborough Minutemen and spent many weekends marching in town parades. He could always be found at Fifer's Day or volunteering in one of the many Minutemen efforts. After retiring to Woodsville, Ken volunteered in Mountain Lakes and was named Person of the Year.

Ken is survived by his daughter Jennifer Loutrel and husband Louis Loutrel of Lancaster, MA; son Brian King and wife Courtney Levitsky of Everett, WA; three grandchildren, Jaxon, Madison, and Molly Loutrel of Lancaster MA; and niece Cindy Campbell of Cato NY. Ken was predeceased by his wife, Laraine King (August 20, 2022); his parents, Martin Kenneth King and Ruth Giles; and his sister, Eleanor Campbell.

Services and a celebration of life will be held this summer in Mountain Lakes.
