Obituary

Wells River, VT-  Kent Hawthorne Haskell, 87, formerly of Groton, VT, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 3, 2019, at his home.

Kent was born in Groton, VT, June 23, 1931, the son of George and Vesta (Carpenter) Haskell.

Kent graduated from Groton High School, class of 1949.  He later went to Barrington Bible College in Providence, RI.  He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from July 9, 1952 to June 30, 1954.  During this time, he was stationed at Okinawa.

Kent was a Game Warden for the State of Vermont for many years covering the Rutland area and then Orange and Caledonia Counties.  Later, he traveled across the country to Reno, NV where he drove a taxi cab for a year and half.  He returned to his hometown of Groton and went to work for Bob Powers Construction.   In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and made many different items.

He was a member of the Groton United Methodist Church.  Kent was also a former member of the Blue Mountain School Board for 6 to 7 years in the early 1970's when the school was being built.

Kent loved fishing, picking berries, carpentry work, boiling sap for maple syrup, and traveling to many countries.

He was predeceased by his three sisters, Joyce Frost, Faye Jordan, and Shirley Darling; four brothers, Glenn Haskell, Guy Haskell, Earl Haskell, and Vern Haskell.

Kent is survived by his wife Joan (Andreoli) Haskell of Wells River to whom he was married on October 4, 1981; a daughter, Elizabeth "Beth" Haskell of East Ryegate, VT; a step daughter, Deborah Chamberlin and husband Richard of Randolph, VT; a step son, Kenneth "Chip" Palmer and wife Diane of Turner, ME; six step grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be on Friday, January 11, 2019, at 11 AM at the Groton United Methodist Church, 1397 Scott Memorial Highway, Groton, VT with Pastor Candace Ricker, officiating, assisted by former pastor Rev. Barbara Dwyer.

Burial will held at the Groton Village Cemetery at the convenience of the family in the spring.

Whoever follows Jesus will "never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life" (John 8:12).  Through Him, we can let go of the darkness of our old life and celebrate the joy of walking in the light and beauty of His kingdom.
