Obituary

Lisa Marie Gurney, age 55, of Newbury, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at the Jack Byrne Center in Lebanon, NH. Born in Quincy, MA, on September 17, 1968, to Allan M. Gurney and Claire L. Gurney. Lisa attended Oxbow High School, Franklin Pierce University NH, and Springfield State College MA
Lisa was a dedicated worker and when she committed to something she could be tireless…she held a variety of jobs, all of which involved dealing closely with the public, usually in charitable work, such as with the Upper Valley Press, Easter Seals, and the Upper Valley Haven for 13 years…
She was crucial in helping to establish and run the family's businesses, most famously their small chain of Superior Video rental shops which she managed for 16 years…
One of her best traits was her sense of caring for people, places, and things, for trying to leave her little corner of the world a bit better than she'd found it…
She had a powerful New England sense of humor – from sarcastic to gentle, ready to laugh at the drop of a hat or to make YOU laugh, often at just the right time when you really needed to…
She was intellectually curious – it seems she was always trying to understand something new, find an answer to a random question, or to pass on some nugget of trivia that she'd stumbled upon…
She loved to talk on any subject, sometimes even after she'd been dealing with people all day long…she had even learned sign language, first to speak with her brother but then with anyone else…
And she genuinely loved animals, not only taking care of her own but also being regularly on-call to "babysit" for friends and family…
Among her many interests and hobbies were Zip Lining, Sky Diving and Flying, Painting, Photography, Hiking, and Music…
Lisa was preceded by her father Allan Gurney, her nephew Brandon Gurney, and her grandparents Edwin and Agnes Garland and Ethel and Merlin Gurney.
She is survived by her mother, Claire Gurney, and her brothers Scott Gurney, Mark Gurney, his wife Patricia Gurney, and her niece Ann Marie Santolucito. She is also survived by many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, pets, and many cherished friends along the way and thru the years…
