Newbury, VT- Lloyd P. Real, 97, of Scotch Hollow Road, died on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 following a period of declining health. He was proud to have been able to continue to live independently at home.
Lloyd was born in Hartford, CT on May 6, 1923 to Charles F. and Anna (Hines)Real. He was a graduate of Windsor (CT) High School, Class of 1942. Lloyd was drafted into the US Army and was initially assigned as a clerk. Soon, he was transferred to the Army Air Corps for training as a fighter pilot. However, he was transferred back to the Army and served as an ambulance driver and mechanic.
He married Evelyn Louis Patkoske on May 14, 1949.
Lloyd worked as an auto mechanic for several years as well as for JM NYE Company as a tool and die maker, manufacturing precision parts. Upon relocating to Newbury in 1970, after working several jobs, he began making spinning wheels that were sold all over the world.
Lloyd belonged to the First Congregational Church of Newbury where he was an active volunteer. He was also a Master Free Mason with the Grafton Kane Lodge #46 AF&AM in North Haverhill, NH.
He enjoyed woodworking and carving, in general. He tended his beautiful flower gardens at their home and took care of his ox, Daniel. In 2018, Lloyd was the Parade Marshall for the Woodsville-Wells River 4 th of July Parade.
He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 67 years, Evelyn L. Real on April 8, 2016 and a sister Lorraine Dugan.
He is survived by three children, Bill Real and wife Lori of Henniker, NH, Pam Fournier and husband Dana of Bourne, MA, and Marcia Newcomb and husband Jim of North Haverhill; two grandchildren, Matthew Real and wife Jackie of Acton, MA and Alisha Real and husband Joe Brown of Bristol, RI; three great grandchildren; and three nephews, David, Robert, and Ken.
There are no calling hours.
A graveside service will be on Tuesday, May 4 at 12 noon in the Townhouse Cemetery, 4504 Scotch Hollow Road, Newbury with Rev. David Pruitt, officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Orange East Senior Center Meals on Wheels Program, 276 Waits River Road, Bradford, VT 05033.
