Obituary

North Monroe, NH- Loring Whitman Chace, 92, of Buffum Road, died at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, June 13, 2015. He was born in Swansea, MA on May 8, 1923, to Anthony and Ethel (Cady) Chace. Following graduation from Swansea High School, he attended the Graham School in Kansas. On July 19, 1952, he married Esther Aballo. Loring farmed in Swansea with his father and brother, Walter. Along with his father, they sold grain for Eastern States. They began farming with Holsteins and Jerseys at Island Cove Farm in 1957 and sold their herd in 1999. Their herds were among the highest producers in Grafton County through 1989 and received many Hood Quality recognition awards. At one time, he owned a cow that produced 300,000 pounds of milk, one of the first cows reaching that milestone in New Hampshire. Loring was very active in the farming community as a member of Northern Farms, Eastern Milk Producers, Milk Marketing, Inc., and Dairy Farmers of America. He was recognized as the Dairy Farmer of the Year in 1981 and received an award from the New England Green Pastures Committee the same year. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Grange. Loring was a member of the Soil Conservation District for many years and served the organization in various capacities. In 1974 he received the Goodyear Conservation Award for outstanding accomplishments in resource conservation in Grafton County. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America as both a scout and a leader. He also belonged to the Monroe Community Church, where he served as a trustee, and was a former selectman for eighteen years and member of the Board of Adjustment in Monroe. He was predeceased by two sisters, Esther Humphrey and Celia Lamsa and two brothers, Walter and Quentin Chace. He is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Esther Chace of Monroe; five children, Melody Morrison and husband Les of Peacham, VT, Todd Chace and wife Sheila of Monroe, Allen Chace of Monroe, Clay Chace and wife Wendy of Monroe and Glenn Chace and companion Orlanda of Lakeland, FL; nine grandchildren, Earl Morrison and wife Carolyn, Greg Morrison and friend Robyn, Tammy Tobin, Kelley Chessher, Cameron Chace, Sr., Ryan Chace and companion Jessica Crowe, Raymond Chace and companion Joanna Aldrich, Jillyan Chace, and Bethany Dubey; seven great grandchildren, Luke Morrison, Caleb Morrison, Cameron Chace, Jr., Kirsten Chace, Lexi Cloutier, Hoss Davis, and an expected great grandson, due in September; a brother, Williston Chace of Swansea; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, June16 from 6-8 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. A funeral service will be on Wednesday, June 17, at 1 PM at the Monroe Community Church, Monroe with Pastor Earl Brock, officiating. Burial will follow in the North Monroe Cemetery.
