- Luther "Skip" Barrett, 94 of West Newbury, passed to his Heavenly home on August 17, 2021 at the Frances Atkinson Residence in Newbury, Vermont.
Skip was born on July 22, 1927 in New Britain, Connecticut to Stanley Barrett and Helen (Young) Barrett. Skip lived in Connecticut most of his younger years while working in the construction business and also joined the rodeo for a short time. In 1945 Skip served in the U.S. Army in Germany until December of 1948. He married Edith Adelheid Wiesebrock in September 1948 in Schweinfurt, Germany and they resided in Westbrook, Connecticut. Skip worked for the Lee Company in Westbrook and had his own masonry business.
In 1974, Skip married Doris (Senn) de Redon and made their home at Halls Lake in West Newbury, Vermont. Skip was the "Handyman" at Camp Farwell and for many residents around Halls Lake. Skip also drove a school bus and having a great sense of humor Skip became a favorite with the children. Skip was known for his willingness to help others in the area, at the Oasis Assisted Living Residence and the West Newbury Congregational Church where he and his wife Doris were members.
Skip leaves a daughter Diane Frost and husband Charles of Groton, VT, a son George de Redon and wife Ruth Ann of Winchester, MA, four grandchildren, Steven, Kelly, Timothy, Emily and husband Zaid and one great-grandson, Luke. A niece, Carlene "Barrett" Lewis and husband Charles of Lyme, CT. A sister in law, Nile Barrett, a niece Marlow Medeiros and husband Dan and a nephew Morgan Barrett and wife Heidi of Westbrook, CT. Skip also leaves his beloved Atkinson Family where he and Doris left their legacy of love and kindness. In the three plus years that Skip resided at Atkinson he developed a special friendship with Reg Bishop. Together, they helped to beautify the Atkinson grounds. Skip was predeceased by his wife Doris on April 5, 2021, his parents Stanley and Helen, one sister, Lois and six brothers, Carl, Elmer, Bud, Jim, Bob and Howie and a grandson, John. Skip will always be known for his witty one-liners and his light-hearted personality. He was a caring man, with a big heart who shared his wisdom and love for God to others.
A celebration of Skip's life is being planned for family and friends at a later date.
