Margaret Jean
Wakefield
September 15, 2023
Margaret Jean Wakefield died peacefully at Margaret Pratt Community on September 15, 2023.
Born in Woodsville on October 5, 1938, to Elizabeth M. Miller and Donald J. Miller, Sr., Jean graduated from Bennington High School in 1956 and married former husband Nathan Wakefield on May 18, 1961. The pair maintained a special friendship for over six decades.
A devoted mother and loving friend, she was a member of Bradford United Church of Christ and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She served several positions in the Eastern Star and was Worthy Matron more than once during her membership of over 50 years. Jean also enjoyed traveling, antiquing, and gardening.
Known for her magnificent red hair, sense of humor, and bright smile, Jean was often described as adventurous, spontaneous, gentle, loyal, and kind.
Survivors include son Derek Wakefield (Randy Jones) of Columbia, MO; son Kurt Wakefield (Tabitha) of Bath, NH; brother Douglas Miller (Barbara) of Bradford; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her professional life took her from local organizations to the VA Hospital in White River Junction. She was later employed at Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital before joining the staff at Dartmouth College (1995-2017).
Her parents and three brothers, Donald, Jr., George, and James Miller, preceded her in death.
At her request, there will be no calling hours or service. The family suggests sending memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association.
