Obituary

Monroe-NH- Marguerite M. Meserve Chamberlin, 98 ½, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at the Grafton County Nursing Home, North Haverhill, NH. Prior to entering Grafton County, Marguerite had been in the care of her son and daughter-in-law for more than ten years. Marguerite was born June 24, 1915, the daughter of William John and Euphemia Elder (Hastie) McLaren of Barnet, VT. She attended Barnet schools and graduated from McInoe Falls Academy in 1934. Marguerite married Howard Meserve in 1935. Together, they operated their two dairy farms in Barnet Village and the little France section of Barnet. In 1955, they purchased the Friend Farm on the meadow in Waterford. Howard died suddenly later that summer and she continued to operate the farm for two years before health issues forced selling and moving to Monroe. She married Elmer Chamberlin in 1965 and they maintained their Monroe property together until he died unexpectedly in 1999. When living in Barnet, Marguerite was active in both the Barnet Center Church and the Barnet Village Church. In the past, she also attended the Church of the Nazarene in North Haverhill, where she played the organ and piano for services. Along with her husbands, Marguerite was also predeceased by her son Robert Meserve who died on May 10, 2011 and by her three older brothers, Hazen Sr., Art and Neil McLaren. She is survived by her daughter in law, Janet Meserve of Falmouth, ME; a stepson, Chandler C. Chamberlin and wife, Nancy and a stepdaughter, Pearl M. Scholl, all of Connecticut; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. There will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Barnet at the convenience of the family.
