Obituary

With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our cherished Marianne "Annie" McClure (née Bensel) on Thursday, September 12th, 2024, at the Jack Byrne Center at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. Surrounded by her loving family, Marianne departed this life at the age of 77, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and unwavering kindness.

Born March 14th, 1947, in East Orange, New Jersey, Marianne was the beloved daughter of Dr. Arlington Bensel, Jr. and Mildred Vaughn Bensel (née Herdman). She grew up with her cherished brother, Arlington "Jeff" Bensel, who, along with her many friends and family, holds dear memories of her warmth, hospitality and selfless love.

Marianne's life was a beautiful journey, marked by her deep love for her family and her remarkable career as the town clerk of Bradford and Vershire, Vermont, for over 20 years. Her dedication to her community touched countless lives, and her steadfast presence at significant milestones left a lasting impact on all who knew her.

On June 7th, 1975, Marianne married Dennis McClure in Brielle, New Jersey. Their 49 years of marriage were a testament to their profound love and devotion. Together, they built a life full of joy, laughter, and adventure. After Dennis's 24-year career in the Navy, they settled in Bradford, Vermont, where they both embraced their final destination together with grace and enthusiasm.
Marianne was a devoted mother to her son, Sean Patrick McClure, and a loving grandmother to her grandson, Quinn Patrick McClure. Her family was the center of her world, and she found immense joy in the moments spent with them. Her love extended to her sisters-in-law, Maureen and Christine McClure, as well as her nieces and nephews: Caitlin and Erin Nash, and Steven and Michael Squitiro.

A woman of many passions, Marianne delighted in sewing, and antiques. Her green thumb brought life to her gardens, and her baking—especially her pies and cookies—was a source of comfort, and joy to all. Her love for animals, especially her pup Mac brought her much happiness.
Marianne was an esteemed member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, where her commitment to history and heritage shone brightly. Her spirited personality and warm heart made her a treasured friend to many.

Marianne faced the end of her life with the same grace and courage with which she lived. As mentioned to her son Sean before her passing, she made sure to express her deep love and gratitude to all those around her, leaving a message of fond memories and heartfelt appreciation for everyone.
